A Surprising Color in a Living Room
I just completed a living room make over, and it was one of those that I really did not saw in my eye before I started, and I got to tell you about it.Our client wanted a room with deep dark blues, well the room was not a large rectangle, but had a bit of light with well framed windows. Let me set the stage for you. This is a mid last century southwest ranch
style that had been nicely upgraded with middle tone wood flooring and hickory kitchen cabinets. I am adding this info because the kitchen, dining and living room are all visible. But this is not really an open floor plan so there are opportunities for color changes from room to room.
The trick in this case was to give the homeowner the perfect blue palette without making the room feel like the walls were closing in. You know cozy, rich, and timeless, not scary movie. This is the point where usually I look at the client’s ideas and need to either tone down the color or find a slightly different hue or shade. It’s not that I strive to impose my ideas on the client, but to find a version of their color vision that will work with the furnishings, flooring etc, and still be enjoyable for years to come. In this case that part was already done for us as the Client was using the brochures from the store showcasing these specific colors. I simply showed her how to see if the colors would work in her home.
So, we used the original dark color choice of client, and a Valspar color called Ocean Slumber. I am here to tell you, this is a deep, rich, dark blue with some teal undertones. Talk about a color making a statement. So why on earth try to calm it down We painted it on three walls, opposite the entry, to the right and on the entry door wall. The fourth wall was the long one and went into the hall. This one was also painted a Valspar color, Tropical Spring, same family but lots lighter. For the woodwork and ceiling we went with a soft creamy white with slight blue undertones, Valspar again called Dove White. The end result is a room that now invites you to come in, sit down, relax and make yourself at home.
Painting Tips
Over the eld one may find themselves using a Paint Brush to makeup something in the house or something around it. Areas of painting concern could allow where the weekly vacuum cleaner leaving black constraint marks on the baseboards, or those typical 4′ high assistance prints on walls are all too substantially known from young parents. Other examples using a Paint Brush may allow painting a closet door on a Saturday afternoon, but getting called away from obligation by some more important family event or need, not rattling wanting to makeup the item in the first place. What ever reason, the Paint Brush deserves it’s attention and care, keeping pristine, just as a favored antique agency from Grandpa’s Shop, deserves it’s cleanup and care. What ever calibre of Paint Brush one chooses to buy, (Best is recommended by number of bristles per square inch) techniques listed here coincide with all makeup brushes.
These techniques will help the lesser calibre Paint Brush, as substantially as the best, making your undergo with the agency that is been around for centuries, a gratifying one. Before you open a gallon of paint, the Paint Brush should be at your side, next to the can. Taking the Paint Brush by the handle, thoroughly sousing it in clean touch liquid before you dip it in the latex makeup (soaking in petrified spirits if using Alkyd or Oil paint) will compound your applier cleanup later on. Getting the excess liquid or petrified spirits discover of the applier is feat to be the next question, as it would be mine, if I did not undergo it. When using Latex paints, stop the Paint Brush unwaveringly by the modify of the handle, tapping the nous of the Paint Brush on the modify of your shoe or boot, gift a some good forceful whacks. Paint Brush is dry sufficiency to dip in paint, but wet sufficiency for an even flow of paint, and easier cleanup later on. If using Alkyd paints, try just blot drying with clean rag, as whacking on the modify of your boot will drive a bit of splatter.
Right Kind of Basement Floor Paint
Finding the right kind of basement floor paint when remodeling your basement is incredibly important. You don’t want to choose a particular paint that is hard to clean or you will find peeling in next to no time. This is why you have to choose correctly when looking at basement floor paint.Ultimately, the best kind of paint to use for this job are paints known as epoxies. These were originally created for use in industrial circumstances, but are now quite popular amongst homeowners and home improvement types.
Epoxy paints are incredibly durable and highly resistant to things like oil and grease. This is also what makes them great for the garage or the porch. They are also waterproof, which is a bonus for a basement floor since basements can be so humid and damp – and are usually prone to flooding as well. The paint’s resistance to heat is good in the respect to the humidity as well.
Overall, these paints require much less upkeep. They are easy to apply and last a very long time. This is obviously why they were originally used in industrial situations. The most expensive basement floor paints, as well as the toughest, are 100 percent solid paints. Next comes the 40 to 60 percent solids. Both of these, due to their price and durability, are used for industrial purposes and therefore getting them for the home is usually overkill.
Correct Color Mistakes With Paint
Dramatically bold colors like orange and bright blue for one or two walls in a room are all the rage and you may have jumped on the trendy color bandwagon only to find that it looks way too loud. This is especially true if
your other walls are stark white, there is just too much contrast. Tone it down by painting the white walls in a neutral that balances the bold color, such as gray to balance blue or cinnamon brown to balance orange.
If you start painting a color on the walls and it looks wrong, return the can to the store and ask them to mix in a pigment that will correct the color to a shade that is more in harmony with your room. Bring along a fabric swatch or accessory that contains the shade you are trying to match.
Sometimes the color range of the paint is right on but it just looks too dull or too brash on your walls. The problem could be the lighting in your room: Switching from florescent to soft incandescent bulbs could make all the difference. A dimmer switch might help as well.If what you thought would be a color agreement looks more like a color clash, painting out the trim and other features like wall cabinets or crown molding can make a big difference in the impact and interplay of colors in a room. For example, some shades of stain used on woodwork can make a shade of yellow on the walls look more like orange. Painting the woodwork white will neutralize that effect. You can also correct color by changing the accents in the room: To tone down that same shade of yellow on the walls, add orange and red in accents, use purple or green if you want to make the yellow pop.
